Consequently, First Class English is a course in Modernism, and we were discussing The Sound and the Fury, concentrating on Faulkner's use of motifs to give unity to the novel: it was a subject I had found more stimulating before I discovered that it is covered in one of the most popular cribs for the book. But some things are too important to let drop, even if they are soiled in the marketplace.
